Make As Embroidered Valentine Gifts Or Cards

When I was homeschooled, and I wish I had done this more when I was homeschooling, my mom gave me extra time to create. By this I mean using the handicraft skills I had learn to just have fun creating.

We need this time to create. We are human beings this is what we do, this helps to feed our souls! There are many ways we can do this so why not make extra special embroidered Valentines for our family members?

Use Your Homeschooling Freedom For Creativity

You are now homeschooling so you can have freedom to what you wish with your time. It’s hard to decide and prioritize isn’t it? We can get so hung up on spelling, grammar, math work sheets, which are all good and important things, but they are not the only things.

Creativity is just as important! Let me say that again, creativity is just as important!

There are many ways to include time for creativity but since Valentines day is coming up soon what better way is there to be creative, then to make valentines as gifts to show love to one another?

Since you are not needing to make 30 valentines so that every one in your children’s class doesn’t feel left out you have more time to spend on each one. So your precious family can take the time to really make something beautiful, fun, and unique.

Embroidered Valentine Heart Gift Ideas

Today I am sharing 3 ideas with tutorials. I find that ideas help me create more ideas. I bet this will help your family as well.

Ideas #1

My first idea is to recreate the classic candy hearts! I sewed a simple border, then embroidered the word, “Love”. What other words can your children come up with? My siblings and I used to try and create short sentences out of the candies, you could do the same with these embroidered Valentine heart gifts.

Ideas #2

On to the second idea. Nothing says Valentines day as flowers do. You can make these flowers using only one basic embroidery stitch. Keep reading to find out more!

You can make them smaller and sew more, or perhaps make them larger to fit just one. What other ideas come to mind?

Ideas #3

Lastly, I share a single stock flower that can be a bouquet, wreath or whatever your creative children can come up!

Supplies-Embroidered Valentine Heart Gift Ideas

  • Pre-cut out burlap hearts from Hobby Lobby
  • Embroidery floss in colors white, pink, and red
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • See through nail polish (optional)

Embroidered Valentine Heart Gift Ideas #1

Prep: Since these hearts are made of skinny burlap, they will unravel if you are not careful as you sew and since many children won’t be careful, you may want to start by putting clear nail polish all the way around. Let dry. It takes about 5 minutes or so.

In this first example we are using the running stitch and the back stitch to recreate a candy heart.

Step 1

Knot and thread. Start from the top middle, come up from behind, pull all the way. Go back down a few holes away to the left, following the heart shape.

Skip a few holes and come back up. That’s all there is to it!

Continue all the way around.

Step 2

Now we learn the back stitch the word love.

Start the same way. Thread and knot.

Start from the top and come down.

Skip ahead a bit and come back up, then come back down in the same hole as the last stitch.

Repeat.

Continue for each letter.

All done!

To Knot At The End

Each time you are needing to change colored embroidery floss or you run out of floss, you will need to make a knot so your hard work doesn’t unravel.

Simply pick a spot that is close to where you stopped sewing, put your needle in and out, pull through. Repeat one more time for added strength. Cut the end. All done!

Embroidered Valentine Heart Gift Ideas #2

Now we move on to the 3 flowers embroidered Valentines day gift.

Prep the same way as for #1.

Thread and knot.

Step 1

We will be learning a new stitch, the chain stitch.

Come up from the back. Go back down in the same hole but don’t pull all the way.

Skip ahead a few holes and pull your needle all the way up. Then come back down on the other side of the loop as pictured.

Repeat spacing each new peddle so that you can fit 5 peddles per flower. This may mean taking stitched out, I needed to a couple of times!

Step 2

Complete two more flowers and you are all done.

Embroidered Valentine Heart Gift Ideas #3

Prep is the same as above.

Thread and knot.

Step 1

We are using the stem stitch to start the next embroidered Valentines day card.

Pick a spot on the bottom middle and then come on up.

Move one hole up and to the right. Poke your needle through and pull all the way down.

Come back up in the hole right above where you first brought your needle up. Move one hole up and to the right as before, and go back down.

Repeat until it is tall enough.

Step 2

Next, we repeat the same chain stitch used for the peddles above to make a leaf.

Step 3

This time I used back stitches to make the flower. You can use the same the chain stitch like the 3 flower ideas you can.
